ACADEMICS / VISUAL ARTS
ILLUSTRATION
DEGREE OVERVIEW
The world around us is filled with the creative imaginations of illustrators. As one of the most demanding yet rewarding occupations of the visual arts, illustration concentrates on drawing, painting, and design. A high degree of facility in these skills must be achieved before moving on to the consideration of specific illustration problems. The specialized courses deal with various aspects of the field: general illustration, editorial illustration, book illustration, typography, reproduction, graphics, and perspective. Opportunities in illustration are varied and substantial. If you’ve ever stood in the greeting card aisle, the magazine rack, watched an animated show or movie, read a children’s book, you have seen the work of an Illustrator firsthand. Chances are, you’ve experienced the imagination of one of our notable alumni, Walter Wick. He created the “I Spy” book series!
Beyond core curriculum and elective coursework, students are exposed to classes in Painting, Drawing, Cartoon Art, Experimental Artists, Book Design, Illustration Methods and more.
