Dean of Art and Academics
12 month, full-time, 40 hours per week
The Dean of Art & Academics position at Paier College of Art is an entry-level deanship at a small, vibrant, fine arts college in Hamden, CT. As the only independent art college in Connecticut, Paier has a 70+ year legacy of producing accomplished technical artists. Some of our distinguished alumni include Walter Wick (creator of the “I Spy” book series), Ruth Sanderson (illustrated over 100 book covers) Tim O’Brien (regularly illustrates covers for Time, GQ & Rolling Stone) and Howard Porter (DC and Marvel Comics). Currently we offer five bachelor’s degree programs in fine arts, illustration, graphic design, photography and interior design. Additionally, Paier offers four certificates and one associate’s degree in photography.
Provides vision and leadership for Paier’s programs in conjunction with the President and Provost. Provides academic, administrative, and technological leadership to faculty; Heads all new faculty searches.
With the support of the Provost, the Dean oversees departmental and faculty functions which include: advisory groups, committees, preparing course outlines, instructional practices, grading procedures, student probation and loss of matriculation, and student misconduct.
Develops, prepares, and updates program course material by overseeing course reviews, development of new courses and programs in partnership with the faculty and Provost.
Creates coordinated schedule of class offerings in all instructional modalities including course enrollment efficiency goals of the College.
Oversees equipment/materials and resources utilized within the program in concert with Department Heads and Division Directors.
Responsible for overseeing the attendance & learning management system for faculty (along with Human Resources) and students.
Evaluates transfer credit for new and existing students.
Insures student satisfaction and consistency through retention, counseling and remediation.
Plans and executes Paier’s community and internal events which include art shows, student orientations and graduation.
The Dean may teach academic and/or studio courses at the discretion of the Provost.
Assists the Provost with accreditation, special projects, and other duties as assigned.
Master degree required, a degree (Bachelor or Master) in an arts related field is preferred.
Three-Five years in teaching and/or administration at the higher education level and/or in the arts.
* An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job may be acceptable in lieu of those requirements listed above.
